In another cowardly act of dhimmitude, newspapers across the country are not printing a cartoon which might "presumably" "offend" muslims. While there are elements of Berkeley Breathed's "Opus" that tend to offend many people of good christian conscience, there is nothing in the latest which warrants this action.
While Malkin suggests readers view the cartoon at slate.com, I cannot in good conscience recommend readers to that vile site. Instead, I suggest readers interested in seeing what the ruckus is about view it here. It's almost funny.
As I write this, the most searched term on Technorati happens to be related to the S[T]upidest News Item Ever (tm). For the record, David Blaine is all wet.
  Oh, hey, Technorati! What's up with those creepy pictures of "big name bloggers" staring back at me from my screen? Whether or not I want to know what blogs these folks read, I think those pictures are a little... bizarre.
For those that don't know, David Blaine is an illusionist, specializing in "street magic." He performs amazing acts of prestidigitation for total strangers he meets on the street. He is a master of his art, though a little creepy sometimes.
When he is not amazing people with his cards tricks and levitation, he does more grandiose stunts, though these hardly qualify as "magic." He once suspended himself over the Thames River in a glass box for 44 days. He also has stood on top of a 100 foot pole for 35 hours, and has been encased in a block of ice for over 60 hours. His most recent act of showmanship involves being suspended in an eight foot water tank.
These bizarre stunts may provide curious entertainment to a bored audience, but this is hardly what one would consider serious news. Consider if you will, this list of serious news items: Which one doesn't belong?
Rita Cosby and the folks over at MSNBC apparently think the underwater guy is worthy of your attention. So much so, they devoted an entire 8+ minute TV segment to this pressing issue of the day. When it was over, Rita declared "I think it's the most incredible interview I've ever done." Here are the stupidification stats:

David Espo is either;
A) a leftist shill for the Democratic Party, or
B) a pathological liar, or
C) an incompetent reporter.
Either way, he is severely unqualified to report on Texas political developments. Take this line from his report on the Supreme Court agreeing to hear a case involving redistricting in Texas; [The Supreme Court is]...agreeing to review controversial redistricting that produced ballot box gains for Republicans but an ethics rebuke and criminal charges for GOP Rep. Tom DeLay.
Did you catch that? The SUPREME COURT is reviewing the very issue that resulted in TOM DELAY'S CRIMINAL CHARGES.
Uhmm, no they are not. The charges against Delay are the result of a political hack pressing charges against him for political purposes. The charges involve conspiracy (dismissed) and "money laundering." These charges are unrelated to the redistricting isssue before the court.
Oooh, but what those ETHICS CHARGES? Well, you have to read through the 833 word article to find in the very last sentence that the rebuke was related to Delay's response to DEMOCRATS trying to POLITICIZE the REDISTRICTING ISSUE by LEAVING THE STATE while the LEGISLATURE WAS IN SESSION.
Throughout the article, the distinct impression is given that EVIL TEXAS REPUBLICANS have tried to POLITICIZE the REDISTRICTING PROCESS. No culpubility is even hinted at with regards to the democrats' shameless and irresponsible deriliction of their duty.
Today I saw two magazines next to each other that made quite a disturbing juxtoposition. The two rags in question were GQ and Esquire.
What a nearly nude Jennifer Aniston has to do with men's fashion is beyond me, but apparently the editors of GQ have no problem with the continuing pornagraphication of America. After all, it does sell magazines.
Right next to the topless GQ cover was the December edition of Esquire (another magazine I have never in my life read.) Beyond the elitist "Best and Brightest" fawning, I thought the reference to " Dirty Hands" peculiar. Frankly, I do not want to know what he is doing with his hands...
These covers aren't blasphemous (like the Osteen cover,) but I found the whole juxtaposition of Clinton doing something dirty with his hands next to a topless woman quite discusting.

Thanks, AP. I really was wondering what kind of clutter Karl Rove has in his garage. Now I can sleep at night, knowing that his green ladder leans sideways, and the stuff in his plastic storage bins is indiscernable.

Following are a few choice quotes from a couple of recent Bill O'Reilly interviews. Please note that these quotes are ripped entirely out of context and presented in the worst possible light.

This atrocity is brought to us by the annoying little creatures referred to as Italian " artists". This is a misnomer, however, perpetrated by the media's refusal to accurately define those things it attempts to describe. For example, murdering terrorists are called insurgents and militants. Whacked out ego driven republicans are called mavericks. Leftist pro-abortion republicans are called moderate. Extreme pro-abortion politicians are called centrist. And this sludge is called art.

When I get back, I am canceling my subscription, and making certain that as many folks as I possibly can do the same.

Look, it's one thing to be critical of the government's response to the Hurricane. Let's have the debate about responsibility. (Can you say New Orleans Mayor's Office? Can you say Louisiana Governer's Office?) That's all well and good, and perhaps useful to make certain it doesn't happen again. If you're going to do that, though, at least get your facts straight. This is nothing more than a hateful smear of our President during a time of national crisis.
People are still being plucked from the water, buses are still carting survivors out of the city. How does this hate-filled diatribe help one single individual?
 Ok, so there's a hurricane headed torwards New Orleans. I pray for God's protection over the city, and sincerely hope the best for the residents of the Big Easy. Donations to the Red Cross would be in order.
Fox News has now become Fear Factor News. While flipping through the channels (trying NOT to hear all the hype) I've heard the following concerns given legitimate airing;
 1. The storm surge could lead to massive flooding, potentially destroying the city.
This is a legitimate and serious threat, one New Orleans has always lived under.
2. The destruction of oil refineries could present the "WORST EVER" disaster to the oil market, proving "CATASTROPHIC" to the national economy.
This threat analysis comes from a financial futures guy. Sounds a bit hyped to me.
3. The roof of the Superdome may collapse.
Officials claim the roof of the superdome can withstand winds of up to 200 mph. The Fox Weather Babe seems to think they could collapse at 150 mph.
4. People are refusing to listen to the dire warnings of the Fox Weather babe.
This could be true. How much "you are all going to die" can folks handle?
Fox News- We hype, you cringe in fear.
(PS, not just picking on fox, I'm sure there's similar fear mongering going on at CNN, MSNBC, etc... I'm just not tuning in to those others.)
I'm taking a wait-and-see approach myself. We'll know tomorrow whether the hype was inflated or not.
 The August " Texas Monthly" is out. I don't read the rag, but it's always on display at the Albertson's checkout stand. The cover has a glowing Osteen clutching a Bible. The text on the magazine reads;
And on the eight day, God created
Joel Osteen.
The online article requires a subscription to read the whole thing. I really don't care to read this gush piece, and I particularly don't care to pay one red cent to pay for such dribble.
"Dribble, you say? What dribble?"
Glad you asked. Take this cute new term of endearment used to described Osteen's church:
Gigachurch From there it goes on to discuss the success of his book and his hectic schedule of private jets and Wal-mart book signings. I would be very surpised to find any mention of the blood of Christ or His redemptive work done at calvary. Instead, we're expected to wonder at the glory that is Osteen.
Well, not me. As for me and my house...

 I have never before posted on the tragedy that is Sudan. Like Moses, I fear my lack of eloquence may get in the way of the message. I must also confess limited knowledge here. See, my brain leaks. Because of that, I tend to try to not force more in than it can bear. Horrible things are happening in Darfur. I can retain that easily enough. Daily updates begin to crowd out other things. It's easier to just know that there are bad things going on, but not bother too much with the details. (Kind of like the Aruba story- I know something bad has happened there. My brain doesn't have room for all the details.) Of course, it's easier to not know what is happening there when there is no news coverage on the subject.
Remeniscent of Neil Postman's "Amusing Ourselves to Death," Nicholas Kristoff berates the news media's obsession with all things trivial and irrelevant, particularly as relating to the lack of coverage of the Darfur genocide. Kristoff writes;
...ABC News had a total of 18 minutes of the Darfur genocide in its nightly newscasts all last year - and that turns out to be a credit to Peter Jennings. NBC had only 5 minutes of coverage all last year, and CBS only 3 minutes - about a minute of coverage for every 100,000 deaths. In contrast, Martha Stewart received 130 minutes of coverage by the three networks.
In his post reflecting on this misdrected focus, Mark Daniels confesses;
...I'm at least as guilty of indifference as anybody else. Maybe more so. I live in a nice house in the suburbs. I pay too little attention to the pain of my neighbors. I offer too little money and too few prayers. I haven't peppered my congressional representatives, the White House, or the State Department with emails on the Darfur tragedies. I haven't made enough effort to find information that's on independent web sites and at such mainstream media sites as the one run by the BBC, which has done an excellent job covering Darfur.
Mark, your words convict me seeing as I share the same guilt. Thankfully, there are those that are taking action to bring an end to this horror. I thank God in heaven for them, and pray for His hand to bless their work for His glory.
If you are considering taking a more active role in opposing the wickedness in Darfur and Sudan, here are a few suggested starting points-
Give:
Samaritan's Purse
Servant's Heart
Persecution Project Foundation
Voice of the Martyrs
InterAction
Read:
Allthings2all
Coalition for Darfur
Sudan Tribune
Pray:
God's purpose to be fulfilled in the persecution
Steadfast faith among the saints
Willing laborers
 Something is seriously wrong with search engines these days. Folks turning to the internet to find information about Bill O'Reilly and Joel Osteen are being served up a link to my site... hardly a repository of relevant information about either of these people. Of course, google and MSN seem to think I'm also an authority on such subjects as Robert E. Lee's opposition to slavery and the leaking flush seal of the American Standard Champion toilet.
Be that as it may, thanks for visiting. Feel free to look around, but if you're looking for the real dirt on Bill Osteen and Joel O'Reilly, here's what's out there;
